Lawyers, What exactly do they do? In Jim Carrey’s 1990 something movie: “Liar Liar” he played the role of a constant liar by profession and in his personal life. While being a Liar isn’t really a registered degree course it’s technically accepted term Lawyer is. Seriously though many people believe that effective lawyers aside from passing the law board exams must possess the ability to lie like their life depended on it. And not just the run of the mill whopper, were taking lying that even he believes in what he’s saying. According to Black’s Law Dictionary a lawyer is learned in law similarly an attorney, solicitor or counsel. Simply put this is a person who has studied, lives, breathes and practices law in that order. This is after attaining a license of course. Lawyers play many roles not all of which are commonly familiar to people. As the common image of a lawyer is just a suit wearing stern faced courthouse blabber mouth who talks at the top of his or her voice on several given intervals. Lawyers aside from arguing such cases for their clients in court will also go into that extra mile of writing and drafting court papers. Extensive research is necessary in order to get the proper facts for the issues and arguments that are to be tackled and discussed in court. Lawyers can also provide assistance and legal advice to a client. This makes their services available even before any problems occur. They help avoid problems by giving out legal advice, they counsel on minimizing such problems and possibly solving them without having to spend extra on court hearings and commonly when the going gets tough their there in court giving you that helping hand you need. In cases of intellectual property protection, the law on this and the law governing lawyers on this matter vary from country to country. Lawyers also work as mediators who can do negotiations for you. Their in-depth knowledge on legal concerns makes bargaining work to your advantage. Drafting contracts is also a task any lawyer can easily accomplish. When in legal doubt seek counsel.
